Type examination of laser protection windows

If you need type-tested laser protection windows, there are three possibilities.

Testing according to EN 207: This standard actually applies to laser protection glasses. However, since the wearer and filter can be tested separately, so that the same filter does not have to be tested several times together with other wearers, the test according to EN 207 also applies to protective windows made of the same material as the glasses filter. Since the irradiance is the decisive variable, a test according to this standard is independent of the test laser.

Testing according to EN 12254: This standard makes similar demands to EN 207, but requires laser resistance over a longer irradiation period and, in the case of pulsed operation, over more pulses. However, the maximum power is limited to 100 W and the maximum pulse energy to 30 J. Since the irradiance is the decisive factor here as well, a test according to this standard is also independent of the test laser.

Testing according to EN 60825-4: Tests according to this standard are actually only valid in connection with the laser with which the test was carried out. However, laser experts usually accept it if a calculation shows that comparable results can be expected with another laser for which the window is to be used.
